Work the queues

Empty the working views of the Transactions page each week, so that every movement has a category, a price and a decision.

Where to find it:your-organization.conta.financeTransactions

The tabs under the header of the Transactions page are working views. All shows the whole ledger. Each of the other tabs holds one kind of work. Its number counts the transactions it holds under the filters on screen. If you empty the tabs once a week, the work stays small.

The working views of the Transactions page, with the count of each tab

The weekly routine

  1. Open Transactions in the sidebar.
  2. If filter chips show under the toolbar, select Clear all. A filter lowers every count, so a tab can look empty when it is not.
  3. Open each working view from left to right and empty it, as the sections below tell you.
  4. When a tab shows no transactions, go to the next one.

Unclassified

This tab lists the transactions that hold a movement with no categoryThe accounting label of a movement, such as Purchase or Fee. Cost basis reads it.. Gas never shows here, because gas always has the category Fee.

To empty it:

  • Select the movements and give them a category. See Categorize movements.
  • If the same kind of movement comes back every week, select Create rule instead. A rule also categorizes the movements that arrive later. See Create a rule.
  • If movements of different transactions belong together, link them, so they share one category. See Link transactions.

A movement whose category you removed with Remove category comes back to this tab.

Unpriced

This tab lists the transactions with a token that has no price for its date. Their value is unknown, so their cost basis is not complete.

To empty it:

  • Select the warning icon beside Net value. It opens Missing price data, where you add the price.
  • If a token has no price at all, add it to another tokenOne coin, such as USDC, with each platform it lives on, such as Ethereum and Base. Its platforms share one price, one symbol and one name., or make it follow the price of another token. See Fix a token with no price.
  • To set the price of one movement, select only that movement and select Set value in the selection bar.

DeFi

This tab lists the transactions whose counterparty is a known DeFi protocol contract. It is not a list of work to do: a transaction stays in it after you categorize it.

Use it to check that deposits into a protocol and withdrawals from it have the category you expect. See DeFi positions and double counting.

Potential bridges

This tab lists the transactions that hold one side of a suspected transfer between two platforms. Select the bridge mark of a row and decide what the pair was.

A pair leaves the tab when you mark it as an internal transferAn asset moving between two of your accounts. It is not a disposal, so no lot is consumed., or when you select Not a bridge. A pair that you mark as a swap stays in the tab. See Potential bridges.

Potential spam

This tab lists the transactions flagged as forged transfers, or as transfers of a spam token. These transactions do not show in the other tabs, so they do not add work there.

Usually there is nothing to do. Look down the list for a token you know is real. See Potential spam.

When a tab is empty

An empty working view shows No transactions match these filters and this message: "This working view is empty, which is the good outcome." There is nothing left to do in it.

If filters are on, the tab is only empty for those filters. Select Clear all filters to check the whole ledger.

When all five tabs are empty, open the Needs attention tab of the Gains & losses page. See Fix what needs attention.
