Connect an AI client (MCP)

How to let your own AI, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok, read the books of an organization and prepare changes, and how to stop it.

An AI clientA program with a language model of its own, such as Claude or ChatGPT, that a person connects to an organization. is a program with a language model of its own, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok. You can connect one to an organizationOne company with its own books, its own data and its own address. through MCPModel Context Protocol: the standard an AI client uses to connect to Conta Finance and read the books. (Model Context Protocol). The client then reads the books with the same tools ContaGPT uses, and you ask your questions there.

What an AI client can do

An AI client reads. It reads transactions, accounts, tokens, rules, gains and losses, and reconciliation, and it reads the articles of this help center.

An AI client can also prepare a change, if you allow it when you connect it. It prepares the same changes as ContaGPT: a rule, the category of a transaction, the review mark of transactions, a contact and a tag on an account. See Confirm a change the client prepared.

An AI client cannot change the books by itself. It cannot confirm a change it prepared. It cannot import an account, and it cannot read the credentials of an exchange.

Each person connects their own client. The client reads with the access of that person, and no more. If your access to the organization ends, your client stops within 5 minutes.

Turn AI clients on for the organization

AI clients are off until a person with Full access turns them on.

  1. Select the organization menu at the top of the sidebar, then Organization settings.
  2. Select AI clients (MCP).
  3. Turn on Allow AI clients.

With Read and edit access or Read only access, you see the page and you cannot change the switch. The page says: "Only the people with full access turn this on or off."

Connect your client

  1. On the AI clients (MCP) page, select Copy next to the address. The address is the address of your organization, followed by /mcp.
  2. In your AI client, add a connector, also called a remote MCP server, with that address.
  3. The client opens Conta. Sign in if Conta asks.
  4. Read the page. It shows the name of the client, the organization, your access, and where the connection goes. Continue only if that is the client you use.
  5. If you want the client to read only, clear Prepare changes. With Read only access, the page does not show this option.
  6. Select Connect …. The button is available a moment after the page shows.

The client is connected. In a new conversation, ask it about the books.

If the page says "This organization does not allow AI clients", a person with Full access must turn them on first.

If the page says "The app sent a request that is not correct", the client must correct its request. Select Go back to … only if it names the address of your client.

Confirm a change the client prepared

When you ask the client for a change, it prepares the change and gives you a link. Nothing changes yet.

  1. Open the link. Conta shows the proposed change, with the name of the client that prepared it and what the change does.
  2. Read the change. The page shows how many movements it changes.
  3. Select the button that names the change, for example Create rule, or select Discard.

A change that deletes something, or that changes many movements, asks you to confirm a second time.

A proposed change holds for 15 minutes. After that, Conta refuses it and nothing changes. Ask the client to prepare it again.

Only you can open the link. To confirm a change, you need Read and edit access or Full access. See ContaGPT proposals.

See and end your connections

Your connections are on your security page, at accounts.conta.finance. On the AI clients (MCP) page, select Your connected AI clients to open it.

The list Connected AI clients shows each client, its organization and when you last used it. To end a connection, select Disconnect. The client stops within 5 minutes.

A connection also ends by itself after 30 days without use, and 90 days after you made it. Connect the client again to continue.

Turn AI clients off

A person with Full access turns the switch off on the AI clients (MCP) page. Conta says how many connected clients stop. Select Turn off to confirm.

Every connected client of the organization stops within 5 minutes. If you turn the switch on again later, each person connects their client again.
