Analytics and privacy choices
What Conta measures about how the product is used, and how you accept, reject or turn it off for your account.
Where to find it:accounts.conta.financeYour accountProfilePrivacy
Conta can measure how the product is used, to find problems and to decide what to build next. The measurement is not about your books. The choice is yours, and it belongs to your account: you make it once, and it applies in every organization you open and on every device where you sign in. Every access level can make it, Read only too.
The choice shows only when your Conta is set up to measure. If you see no Privacy section in your profile and no banner, nothing is measured.
What is measured
Conta measures which pages people open and which actions they use (for example, that a rule was created). It never sends the content of your books. It sends no account address, no transaction hash, no amount, no name that a person typed, no message to ContaGPT and no file name. It sends the name of a page, not its address, so the address of an account never leaves the app. It also counts which windows people open and close, which lists they sort, filter or search (never the text typed or the value chosen), and how long a screen takes to load (never the address of the request).
There is one choice, Accept or Reject, and it changes how the measurement works:
- If you select Reject, or you have not chosen yet, Conta still counts visits and the use of features, but anonymously. It sets no cookie and does not link your visits to each other.
- If you select Accept, Conta also remembers your browser with a cookie. It links your visits to a code that does not show who you are (it is not your name or your email). Conta also measures how long you stay on a page, and it keeps a small note in the storage of your browser to know when you did something for the first time (for example, your first rule). This lets Conta see how the product is used over time.
Your Conta may also use third-party analytics tools. They are on only when Conta is set up for them, and the banner then says so. In that case Accept also turns on these tools. They set their own cookies and receive the same kind of data: the name of the page, the features that are used and the same code that does not show who you are. They never receive the content of your books. Until you select Accept, Conta does not load them and sends them nothing. If you select Reject afterwards, Conta stops sending them data and removes their cookies from this browser. The privacy policy names these tools.
A Reject does not turn the anonymous count off. To stop all measurement, the third-party tools included, turn off Anonymous statistics in the privacy choices (see below).
Make a choice when the banner shows
When you have not chosen yet, a banner titled Help us improve Conta shows at the bottom right of the page, on the account site and in your organizations. It does not block the page. Its text says that your choice is saved to your account.
- Select Accept to allow the cookie and the code (and the third-party analytics tools, when the banner names them).
- Or select Reject to keep the anonymous count only.
- Or select Privacy choices to open the window of choices.
The banner has a link to the privacy policy.
If you have not signed in yet, the banner asks for this browser, and it says that your choice is saved to your account when you sign in. If your account has no choice yet, Conta then saves the one you made. If your account already has a choice, the choice of your account wins and the one of the browser is dropped.
Change your choice later
Change the choice in your profile. It is the same everywhere:
- Open the account site, accounts.conta.finance, and select Your account in the menu of your picture.
- On the Profile tab, go to the Privacy section.
- Select Accept or Reject.
You can also select Privacy choices in the menu of your picture on the account site. In an organization, the window of privacy choices opens from the banner, and it has the link Change it in your profile.
Before you sign in, select Privacy choices at the bottom of the sign-in pages. The bottom of these pages also links the privacy policy, because they ask for your email.
The section shows your choice and the day you made it. A change counts from that moment. It does not remove what was measured before. When you change from Accept to Reject, Conta removes its cookie from your browser and stops sending to the third-party tools. The window of an organization that is already open applies the change when you return to its tab, and at the latest when you open it again. Conta never uses an old Accept for a page that it has not been able to confirm: until it confirms your choice, a page counts anonymously.
The switch Anonymous statistics turns off all measurement, the third-party tools included. It wins over your choice.
If Conta cannot save a change to your account, it says so. The change then applies in this browser at once, and Conta tries to save it again on your next visit.
Signals from your browser
If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track and you have not made a choice, Conta treats the signal as Reject. The banner does not show. Conta counts visits in the anonymous mode, with no cookie and no user id, and it does not load the third-party analytics tools.
The window of privacy choices then says that your browser sends a privacy signal. You can still select Accept. Your choice wins over the signal, so Conta then uses the full mode that Accept gives. If you select Reject, Conta stays anonymous. A choice that you saved always wins over the signal.
