Pending and confirmed differences

Why a new balance difference waits before it counts as a mismatch, what a rebase difference is, what the tolerance hides, and when the daily snapshot is recorded.

Where to find it:your-organization.conta.financeReconciliation

The Reconciliation page does not call every difference a mismatchA difference between the balance in your books and the balance on the platform, larger than the tolerance.. A difference first has to last, to be worth more than the toleranceThe amount in USD under which a balance difference counts as reconciled. The default is $0.10., and to need an explanation. This article explains the four statuses and the daily history.

Two schedules that do not wait for each other

Conta Finance does two things in the background, each on its own schedule:

  • It imports the new transactions of each account.
  • It checks the balance of each account against the platform, about every ten minutes.

A transaction can reach the platform after the last import and before the next check. The check then sees a balance that the books do not have yet. That difference is not an error: the next import closes it.

Pending verification

A new difference starts as Pending verification. It stays pending for 40 minutes, a time longer than one import cycle.

  • If the balances match again in that time, the difference goes away. It never becomes a mismatch.
  • If the difference is still there after 40 minutes, it becomes a Mismatch.

The 40 minutes count from the first check that saw the difference. They do not start again when the amount changes. When the balances match, the count stops, and a later difference starts a new one.

A pending difference shows on the page, but it does not count:

  • The In sync and Total difference cards leave it out. The caption of Total difference says how many are pending, for example "2 pending verification, not counted".
  • In the list, a token with a mismatch comes first, then a token with a pending difference.

Mismatch

A Mismatch is a difference that lasted. The books miss a movement, or the platform changed the balance with no transaction. It needs an explanation. See Fix a balance mismatch, and Why a balance differs from the platform for the known causes.

Rebase difference

Some tokens grow on their own, with no transaction. Lido stETH is one: its balance grows every day by rebase. Conta Finance calculates the rebases, but a difference on such a token is expected. It shows as Rebase difference, never as a mismatch.

A rebase difference is never pending. It counts against In sync, and it is in Total difference, where the caption names it, for example "$12.40 of expected rebase". You can correct it with Adjust balance, like a mismatch, when the amount matters for your books.

The tolerance

A difference worth less than the reconciliation tolerance shows as Reconciled. Such a difference is rounding: a fraction of a cent that nobody corrects.

  • The tolerance is in USD. The default is $0.10, and the maximum is $1.
  • It applies to mismatches and to rebase differences.
  • A difference that has no price is never hidden, because Conta Finance cannot value it.
  • At $0, every difference shows.
  • A new tolerance applies on the next check.

The account keeps its measured balances, so Adjust balance still shows the real amount. To change the tolerance, see The Reconciliation page.

The daily snapshot

The History tab keeps one snapshot for each UTC day. Conta Finance records the snapshot of a day after 00:00 UTC, once the 40 minutes have passed. In that time, a difference that started near midnight can confirm or go away.

  • The snapshot keeps the status of each difference, so a past day can show Pending verification.
  • It keeps the names of the accounts and the prices of that day.
  • A recorded day never changes. A correction you make later shows in the snapshot of a later day.
  • If the check did not run at midnight, the day is recorded late, on the first check after. A day the check never saw has no snapshot. Conta Finance does not invent one.
